WHAT TO EXPECT

What is Provided

Life jackets, live bait, fishing equipment if needed.

What to Bring

Beverages, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, rain gear, bug spray, fishing equipment, and tackle. When you book a trip I will offer some information on tackle needed. However if you don’t own anything it will be provided.

Keeping Your Catch

While catch and release fishing is common, especially for bass, many anglers choose to keep a meal. Nothing wrong with that. However you will be responsible to clean your catch back home or at your place of lodging. Bring a cooler with ice to transport fish safely without spoilage.

ABOUT ME

WHO I AM

At days end I hope we become friends…

…with fishing stories to tell and re-tell .

Though I guided walleyes on Leech Lake for over 25 years, my guiding these days focuses on fish catching action for big bluegill, crappie, along with some bass and pike. It is my goal not to just help clients catch fish but also to educate them to become better anglers. So questions are welcome and make the days seemingly fly by.

I’m a lifelong avid fisherman whose earliest experience was fishing Ottertail Lake where my parents had a seasonal cabin. In 1984 I moved my family to Walker, MN to work at Camp Fish, a summer instructional fishing camp owned by Ron and Al Lindner of The In-Fisherman. I worked at Camp Fish until 1991 and count this time as very formative in developing my skills as a multi-specie angler.

In the later years, I began guiding walleyes on Leech Lake during the boom years of this walleye factory. I also began fishing some tournaments and in 1994 I joined The In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) as a full-time Touring Pro. In that first year, I won the Rookie of the Year award and at the Lake of the Woods Championship I broke the current Big Fish Record with a 12.12 pound walleye.

In 2002 I realized an anglers dream by winning the $53,000 1st place prize at the Leech Lake qualifying event.

FISHING HERE

MN

Ottertail County

The lakes of Ottertail County are plentiful and offer some of the best multi-specie angling anywhere in the state of Minnesota. Bluegill, crappie, pike, and bass provide lots of action while walleye are the more challenging to catch. I am here to help you navigate through the depths of area lakes and to provide an enjoyable fishing experience in the great outdoors.

I love taking vacationing family groups fishing and will do my very best to provide a memorable experience.

FISH

Targeted Specie

I have developed a passion for panfish, especially trophy size crappie and bluegill. The many lakes of Ottertail County host large numbers of panfish and bass, too. These are the targeted species now for my guiding business, and I have a soft spot for taking families fishing.

It’s always a delight to see a youngster with eyes wide open cranking up a big bluegill, crappie or bass tugging hard on the line.

LAKES

Action Guiding

Big bluegill, crappie and bass provide for “action guiding.” Lakes most commonly fished are Big Pine, Rush Lake, all three Leaf Lake, East Battle, and Fish Lake. I will still guide walleyes when conditions are right for best success.

It is my goal not to just help clients catch fish but also to educate them to become better anglers.
